Health and Safety
Protecting your health is essential to your lifelong success as a musician. Your hearing can be permanently damaged by loud sounds, including music. Vocal health is extremely important for singers, as well as educators who use their voice regularly in the classroom. Furthermore, physically demanding tasks such as the repetitive motions of practicing and performing can cause neuromusculoskeletal health concerns. In order to help you be more aware of potential health issues and best practices for safe musical performance, the Department of Music will hold annual student information sessions on protecting your health during Friday Recital Attendance class. For more information, please see including documents from the National Association of Schools of Music, which are also included the appendices to the UAFS Music Student Handbook.
