Terri Bailey is the staff accompanist for the UAFS Department of Music. Her duties include providing piano accompaniment for the University Chorale, Women's Chorus, Jazz Band and Jazz Catz, as well as for junior and senior recitals, studio classes, private lessons and weekly recitals.
Bailey received a Bachelor of Music Education degree in Pipe Organ from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. For 10 years after graduating from college, Bailey taught elementary music and beginning band in the Iowa and Nebraska Public School systems. After moving to Fort Smith, she became a freelance musician and private piano instructor. She has accompanied in the Fort Smith Public Schools for 23 years.
Bailey and her husband, Don (also a member of the UAFS music faculty), are co-founders of New Song Music Company, which publishes their original music compositions. They have written several solos for band instruments and small ensembles, and an assortment of Christian choruses, jazz band music and vocal ensemble music, as well as written and produced several background tracks of familiar hymns that can be used for instrumental performances. Their latest and most extensive work is "Jazz Suite: A Retrospective," a 12-movement jazz piece for symphony orchestra and jazz band.
Bailey provides piano accompaniment for the Fort Smith Young Actors Guild and the UAFS Academy of the Arts, as well as for various local churches, community recitals, solo contests, ensemble contests and many other events. She also is a member of the Don Bailey Jazz Combo, which plays numerous gigs and fundraisers in the Fort Smith area.
